The Second Siege of Wapping: Dilettante on The Student Journals

First, apologies for the radio silence this month - my laptop has packed it in so I have limited internet access.

My latest article on TSJ is a plea for a more rational consideration of Rupert Murdoch and News International's position than is to be found at present. Read it here.

  1. "Can anybody suggest with a straight face that the Times and the Sun have been as loyal to the Conservatives as the Telegraph, or as the Guardian and the Mirror to Labour?"

No, and that's precisely why Murdoch wields so much power. Because if you piss his editors off, they will hack your phones, splash your private life all over the front pages, and then tell people not to vote for your party.

And let us not forget that Rupert Murdoch's baby is not just a print business. He owns publishing companies, news channels and radio stations. He owns Sky, the Wall Street Journal and Fox News.

While he may not have the highest circulation newspapers or own a dominant market share of our media, he doesn't need to, they all copy each other's news stories. All he has to do is publish a single story and everyone else will report it as well - to suggest that Rupert Murdoch had 16 separate meetings with George Osborne last year for the sheer hell of it is utterly naive.
